This is the original CD version of A New Low. If you purchase this on bandcamp, you will also get to download the 24-bit extended version with one extra track.

Produced in collaboration with Pete Weiss of Verdant Studio, recorded at Armory Sound, Dimension Sound Studios and Milk Row Cemetery, with art work by Lisa Deupree; songs by some of our favorite artists, including Brian Eno, Latin Playboys and Dock Boggs. Of course some Morphine chestnuts by Mr. Sandman, done in our own fashion.

Our auxiliary drummer Jeff Allison played on two tracks and produced the opening Wind Up Radio. And our dear friend, Malian musician Boubacar Diabaté sings on an alternate version of the track Renouveau/Daman N’Diaye found on the bandcamp extended 24-bit download version; his voice is sampled for the CD version.

We are our own worst critics, and we are really very happy with the way this thing turned out. Really, REALLY happy. We hope you enjoy our addition to the low rock universe.

Written by David Hidalgo and Louie Perez; published by Chicken On Fire Music/Hot Churro Music/BMI.

This song is by Latin Playboys: David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos, and old friends of Morphine. We sure hope they like our rather fleshed out version of their tune. It took us a long time and many, many overdubs, under-dubs, re-takes and so on, to finish this track. In the end we decided fading out the ending was better than the big, bombastic finish we recorded.

If we stood by the river, or by the sea
If we stood by the river, or by the sea
If I could not swim, would you laugh at me?

If the ocean was wine, or filled with gin
If the ocean was whiskey, or filled with gin
Would you lead me way, or would you push me in?
Would you push?
